This past month, I ventured into something entirely new: livestreaming on YouTube. It’s been a surprising and rewarding journey, one that’s brought not just over 50 new subscribers to my channel but also the joy of making new friends through repeat viewers. Livestreaming has added an unexpected dimension to my content.
Splitting Firewood, Building Connections
During my livestreams, you’ll typically find me splitting firewood or out with the farm animals. It’s a task that’s both practical and satisfying, perfectly suited to our homesteading lifestyle. But what makes it truly special now is the interaction I get to have with viewers as I work. Whether it’s sharing tips about homesteading, exchanging stories about the outdoors, or simply chatting about life, these moments of connection have made the mundane extraordinary.
There’s something uniquely fulfilling about being able to interact in real time, answering questions, and hearing the encouragement and insights of people tuning in from all over. It’s transformed firewood-splitting from a solitary chore into a communal activity.
Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone
To be honest, livestreaming was not something that came naturally to me. I’ve always enjoyed sharing my life through pre-recorded videos, where I had the comfort of planning and editing. Going live was a different story — no edits, no retakes, just raw, unfiltered moments. It was intimidating at first.
But I decided to push past my hesitation, and I’m so glad I did. Through this process, I’ve discovered a love for an activity I never expected: connecting with people in real-time. The experience has been both humbling and empowering. It’s shown me that stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to personal growth and open up new opportunities I hadn’t considered before.

The friendships I’ve made with repeat viewers have been the biggest highlight of this experience. There’s something special about seeing familiar names pop up in the chat and knowing they’ve chosen to spend their time with me. They’ve not only supported my channel but have also enriched my life with their kindness, humor, and shared enthusiasm for the outdoors and homesteading.
